******************** About Trinity Historical Society ********************
Sites open until October 26th.
Come and view the historic sites in Trinity as part of your visit this Fall to the Discovery Trail. You will view the over 3,000 artifacts in the Trinity Museum which have been collected since 1964 when the Society was first formed and Trinity began to preserve its history. Visit the Green Family Forge and watch our Blacksmith Wade Ivany practice his trade and demonstrate this dying trade, then browse our shelves and maybe purchase something that has been made at our smithy for that special someone; or come to the Lester-Garland House and see how the Lester-Garland family lived in the 19th Century in Trinity.
If you are interested in genealogy and completing your family tree or any other research, then our archives is the spot you need to visit. It is located on the third floor of the Lester-Garland House and contains some of the earliest Anglican Church records of baptisms, marriages and burials for the Trinity Bay area that date back to 1757; court records from the 1830s; mercantile records belonging to Slade, Grieve and Bremmer and the Ryan Brothers establishments and a collection of black and white photographs.
The Society has several special events taking place this Fall including the following: - Saturday Sept 15 - 3rd Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Brookside Golf Course, Hatchet Cove. Lots of prizes. - Saturday September 22 and Sunday September 23 – Doors Open Trinity Bight. This is the second year for "Doors Open" in the area and will involve the participation for the historic sites in Trinity, churches, businesses and private homes. Various buildings will be open to the public, free of charge, over the two day period to offer you a glimpse of behind the scenes of some places that you have always wanted to see before but could not. Some buildings will only be open during certain times of the day and some may offer demonstrations or services so check the Society’s web site for updates. - Saturday October 6th – the 11th Annual MM White Memorial Thanksgiving Lecture with guest Lecturer Bunty Severs.
