If you’re retiring soon and feel like you won’t have anything to do with your life, think again! There are plenty of things you can do as a retired person, even if your health isn’t that great. Here are some of the best things you can add to your list and look forward to doing once you hang up your work clothes and walk out of the office for the final time.
1.Spend time with your family
This is one of the main things that people look forward to doing after they retire. You might have missed many years of spending time with the ones you love, or you may have felt under a lot of stress after having to spend long nights at work. Some people feel like they missed out on watching their children or grandchildren grow up, so now is the perfect time for you to sit back and enjoy it.
2.Buy another property
If you’ve saved money from your job over the years, you can either buy retirement villages for sale in Australia and rent them out to other retired people, or move into one yourself and buy one of the houses. You may even want to buy another property and rent it out to get an extra form of income on top of your pension and other retirement income.
3.Start a new sport
Maybe it’s fishing, or perhaps you’ve always fancied having a go at ballroom dancing, but when you’ve got a full-time job and you’re working hard most days of the week, there’s not really much time to learn anything new. If you have your health, this is the perfect time to try something different. If you feel like you can’t do anything too strenuous, activities such as fishing or golf are ideal.
4.Learn an instrument
This is on the bucket list of many people, even when they haven’t retired yet. Buy a piano or a guitar and watch some YouTube videos to learn some chords. Once you know a few chords, you’ll be able to bash out some of your favourite songs. Memorise them and impress your friends at the next gathering or social event.
5.Write a book
You can either write a fictional story that you’ve been planning for years, or you can write a story based on your own life. This works particularly well if you have been through trauma, exciting events or you’ve worked in a job where travel is prominent. You might not create the next best-seller, but your family and friends would love to read it or you can keep it as a secret for yourself.
If you have the money and somebody to travel with, there’s nothing better than seeing new sights and places once you’ve retired. If you want something relaxing, try a cruise to the Caribbean or Florida. For something with more excitement, take a city break to Tokyo, Hong Kong or a European destination like Paris or London.
